History of the Zenith...

Opened in September 1987, the Zenith Theatre was a contribution to the City of Willoughby by the developers of the Zenith complex. However, its origins can be traced back to the early 1980's when four 'homeless' local performing arts groups, including Phoenix, urged Willoughby Council to provide the community with a small theatre.

Some years later, when the developers of the Zenith site decided to incorporate a theatre and convention centre as part of the complex, those local groups were invited to take part in the development process.

When the theatre opened, Phoenix became one of the resident community theatre companies and was later granted the status of 'Founding Group' in recognition of the company's original connection and on-going commitment to and involvement with the theatre.

Over the past fifteen years, the theatre has provided Willoughby and neighbouring communities with a rich and diverse programme of performing arts and a unique meeting place for the local business community.

Having the Zenith Theatre as a home has given Phoenix the impetus to develop to the point where the City of Willoughby can now boast one of the finest and most successful community theatre companies in Sydney.
